KUALA LUMPUR, 18 December 2024 - Lion Group continues to uphold its role as a caring corporate citizen with the Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) awarding RM480,000 in scholarships to 12 students based on their academic performance, extra-curricular activities involvement and leadership potential. Each of the undergraduates who will pursue their bachelor’s degree at local institutions of higher learning, will receive scholarships worth RM10,000 annually for the duration of their studies. This marks the 34th consecutive year that the Foundation has awarded scholarships to deserving students. The scholarships were presented by LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng, and witnessed by LPF Trustees, Datuk CS Tang and Ms Chow Mun Seong.
Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng said in her speech, “We hope that our contribution will ease their financial constraints, enabling the students to focus on their studies and participate in activities to develop their leadership skills and personal growth.”
“The scholarship holders will receive training in essential soft skills such as problem-solving and communication, and gain valuable experience through internships at Lion Group companies. This will equip them to face challenges in the corporate world. Upon graduation, they will have the opportunity to join the Group in its various divisions such as retail, branding, mining, steel, and property development, aligned with their field of study,” she added.
Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 525 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM12.4 million. In addition, the Foundation has contributed another RM39.8 million towards other causes, bringing its total contribution to RM52.2 million todate.
The Foundation also provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians who require medical treatment such as surgery, purchase of medical equipment and medication. It also assists in sponsoring community health programmes such as medical camps and the purchase of dialysis machines and medical equipment for charitable organisations.
