Press Conference On Amount Raised From Chinese New Year Calligraphy Charity Sale & Recipients Of The Proceeds

Kuala Lumpur, 8 March 2011 - Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) has raised RM200,000 from its 2011 Chinese New Year Calligraphy Charity Sale in aid of needy students in four Chinese Independent schools, Kuen Cheng High School, Confucian Private Secondary School, Chong Hwa Independent High School and Tsun Jin High School.

The amount was raised from the sale of 1,000 pieces of calligraphy pieces sold at prices ranging from RM20 to RM10,000 at nine participating Parkson outlets in Klang Valley namely Pavilion, Sungei Wang, KLCC, The Mall, OUG Plaza, Selayang Mall, Sunway Pyramid, Subang Parade and 1 Utama over 2 weekends i.e.8-9 January and 14-16 January 2011. The sale also included the students’ calligraphy works during the exhibition at Confucian Private Secondary School on 21 and 22 January 2011.

The calligraphy works and Chinese brush-paintings were contributed by Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng; renowned calligrapher, Mr Kerk Won Hoo and other calligraphy and brush painting experts, Puan Sri’s fellow students taking lessons under Mr Kerk, as well as by the students from the four schools.

Puan Sri Chelsia thanked all donors who contributed generously and everyone who had been working tirelessly on the charity event, including the various shopping complexes management especially Pavillion Kuala Lumpur and 1 Utama shopping centre for hosting the calligraphy roadshow and launch respectively, Mr Kerk and other calligraphy and brush painting experts and her fellow students from Xian’s Place for their calligraphy works, and the four independent schools’ management, teachers and students for their participations and contributions of calligraphy pieces as well as staging orchestra performances at the Parkson outlets to publicise the Charity Sale.

Puan Sri Chelsia announced the amount of RM 200,000 raised from the 2011 Charity Sale to be given to the students in the four schools who have been selected to receive the financial assistance to help pay for their education fees. This is the second year the Calligraphy Charity Sale is organised by Lion-Parkson Foundation which has pledge to raise a minimum of RM200,000 a year for the four schools.

The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 by The Lion Group to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. It is governed by a Board of Trustees comprising Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng (Chairman), Mr CS Tang, Dr Yulduz Emiloglu, Madam Gooi Sui Guet and Dr Chua Siew Kiat. All donations to the Foundation are tax-exempt.
