Lion-Parkson Foundation Awards Financial Assistance Worth RM 312,000 to Outstanding Students

Kuala Lumpur 25 June 2010 - The Lion Group once again fulfilled its role as a caring corporate citizen when its Lion-Parkson Foundation awarded financial assistance totalling RM312,000 to 9 students based on their financial background, academic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities.

Of the 9 students pursuing their education in local universities, three received scholarships worth RM12,000 each while another 6 received interest-free educational loans, each valued at RM8,000 per year. The loans will be converted to scholarships in the event the students come back to work for the Lion Group upon their graduation.

This is the 21st year running that the Foundation is presenting awards to deserving students. The awards were presented by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng, Chairman of Lion-Parkson Foundation.

In her speech, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng said "We hope that our contribution will help students be free of financial constraints and be able to focus on the pursuit of excellence; not only in terms of academic achievement but also in terms of leadership qualities and other personable qualities with single-minded commitment".

The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 366 students through various sponsorship programmes worth nearly RM7.8 million. In addition, the Foundation has also contributed another RM11.8 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of RM19.6 million todate.

Another community project by The Lion Group is the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund that provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians seeking medical treatment.
