Lion-Parkson Foundation Awards Scholarships Worth RM560,000 To Outstanding Students

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 July 2013 - The Lion Group once again fulfilled its role as a caring corporate citizen when its Lion-Parkson Foundation awarded scholarships totalling RM560,000 to 14 students based on their academic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities. The awards were presented by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng, Chairman of Lion-Parkson Foundation witnessed by Mr CS Tang, Lion-Parkson Foundation Trustee and Lion Group Director; Mr Suresh Menon, Lion Group Director of Human Resources, and the students’ parents and families.

 

The undergraduates who will be  pursuing their first degree in local institutes of higher learning  received  scholarships worth RM10,000 each per annum for the duration of their studies. This is the 23rd year running that the Foundation is awarding scholarships to deserving students.

 

Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng said in her speech, “We hope that our contribution will help the students be free of financial constraints and be able to focus on their studies and participate in activities to develop their leadership qualities.”

 

She added that the Lion Group’s training division, CeDR Consulting will coach and guide the sponsored students in the areas of personal development, management and team working during their semester breaks.

 

The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 388 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM8.4 million.  In addition, the Foundation  has also contributed another RM17.2 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of RM25.6 million todate.

 

Another community project by The Lion Group is the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund that  provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians seeking medical treatment.
