LION PARKSON RUN 2015 TO RAISE FUNDS FOR BANTING HOME FOR HANDICAPPED & MENTALLY DISABLED CHILDREN

Banting, 24 September 2015 – Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd  together with Lee Chong Wei Foundation are organizing the second Lion Parkson Run at Setia City Mall Central Park in Shah Alam  on 15 November 2015 to raise funds for the Home for Handicapped & Mentally Disabled Children in Banting, Selangor under the auspices of Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF). The run is targeting to attract 5,000 participants and raise over RM1 million for the Home.

 

The Home for special children was built at a cost of RM2.2 million contributed by LPF, on a 4.17 acres piece of land worth RM1.2 million donated by Lion Group. The funds to build the Home came from a series of TV programs in 2008 and the Million Dollar Dance Grand Finale Charity Show in February 2009, both produced by LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng. The Home which can accommodate 100 children was officially opened by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng  and National Shuttler, Dato’ Lee Chong Wei on 4 November 2012.

 

The Run is being held to raise funds to build Phases 2 and 3 of the Home to accommodate another 100 children, and an orphanage and old folks home. The main sponsor for the Run is Parkson, with major sponsors being Fila, Polo, Larrie, The Flexx, Bonia, Akemi, Seiko, Hwa Tai, LS Production, Official Time Keeper, Jaguar, and Official Drink, Spritzer.

 

The press conference to launch the run was attended by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng, Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, Mr V Rajamanikam, President and Founder of Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children Association Johor Bahru;  Lion Group Director and LPF  Trustee, Mr CS Tang; LPF Trustee, Dr Chua Siew Kiat; and Parkson Director – Merchandising, Ms Natalie Cheng.

 

Ms Natalie Cheng in her speech invited the general public, members of the mass media and everyone to join in the Run for a good cause. The Run will have two routes of 5km and 10km.  The registration fee for the 10km route Competitive Run is RM60 while Fun Run for students aged 13 to17 is RM35.  For the 5km route, the fee for Charity Run is RM40 while Family Run is RM100 for a family of 2 adults and 1 child aged below 12 years old.
