LION-PARKSON FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH RM285,000 TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 August 2016 - Lion Group once again fulfilled its role as a caring corporate citizen when its Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) awarded scholarships totalling RM285,000 to 9 students based on their academic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities. The undergraduates who will be pursuing their bachelor’s degree in local institutions of higher learning  received  scholarships worth RM10,000 each per annum for the duration of their studies. This is the 26th year running that the Foundation is awarding scholarships to deserving students. The awards were presented by LPF Trustees, Dr Yulduz Emiloglu and Dr Chua Siew Kiat.

 

Dr Chua Siew Kiat in his speech said, “The awards are in line with Lion Group’s aspiration to contribute to the country’s educational and human resources development in order to achieve economic growth. We hope to nurture talented and educated young Malaysians who will help to shape and build a better tomorrow for the future of our nation.”

 

“We hope that our contribution will help the students to be free of financial constraints and be able to focus on their studies and participate in activities to develop their leadership qualities. The scholarship holders will join Lion Group upon graduation, and will be attached to the Group Head Office or companies in the various divisions such as the retail, mining, property development and services, according to their field of study”, he added.

 

The Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 436 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM9.9 million.  In addition, the Foundation has also contributed another RM23.3 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of RM33.2 million todate.

 

Another community project by Lion Group is the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund that  provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians seeking medical treatment.
