Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund Contributes 2 Dialysis Machines Worth RM84,400 To NKF-Charis Dialysis Cheras

Kuala Lumpur, 14 December 2016 - Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund (LGMAF) under the Lion Group of Companies contributed two dialysis machines worth about RM84,400 to NKF-Charis Dialysis Centre in Cheras for the patients in need of dialysis.

At a simple presentation ceremony at the Centre today, LGMAF Chairperson, YBhg Puan Sri Datin Coleen Herbert symbolically handed over the machines to National Kidney Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chua Hong Wee.  

In her speech, Puan Sri Datin Coleen said, “LGMAF’s relationship with NKF started as early as 1996 where the Fund had donated a total of 6 dialysis machines, including 2 machines to this NKF-Charis Dialysis Centre, and todate the Fund has donated  a total of 13 dialysis machines  worth RM488,400, including today’s contribution to NKF. We hope that our contribution will help to cater to the growing demand for dialysis treatment and ease the financial burden of the patients.”

Since its inception in 1995, LGMAF has been working closely with hospitals in sponsoring their patients as well as those who apply directly to the Fund for financial aid for medical treatment and NGOs which provide dialysis treatment and organise free medical camps, amongst others. Todate, the Fund has disbursed a total of RM7.6 million being sponsorship of medical treatment to 893 individuals and for purchase of medical equipment to several charitable organisations.

LGMAF is open to Malaysians seeking treatment in local hospitals.  It was established in late 1995 with funds raised via a series of charity campaigns and donations from Lion Group’s companies and business associates in conjunction with the Group’s 65th Anniversary celebration and was the brainchild of Tan Sri William Cheng, the Executive Chairman of Lion Group.  From the amount of RM10.42 million collected from the drive, RM8 million was allocated for the launching of LGMAF with the remainder of RM2.42 million donated to various charitable organisations.  Since then, the Fund has been maintained by income generated from its investment in equities and fixed deposits as well as from fund-raising by the Lion Group.
