LION PARKSON RUN 2018 TO RAISE FUNDS FOR EDUCATION AND BANTING HOME FOR HANDICAPPED & MENTALLY DISABLED CHILDREN

Kuala Lumpur, 30 September 2018 – The third Lion Parkson Run was successfully organized by Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) to raise funds for education and charity including the expansion of the Home for Handicapped & Mentally Disabled Children located at Lot 1648, Jalan Angkasa, Bandar Mahkota Banting, 42700 Banting, Selangor, National Cancer Society Malaysia and other charitable causes. The run at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Bukit Bintang attracted about 4,000 participants.

Lion Group Executive Chairman cum Parkson Group Chairman, Tan Sri William Cheng and LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng flagged off the runners. Present at the Run were Lion-Parkson Foundation Trustee, Datuk CS Tang; council members of The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry; National Cancer Society Malaysia Vice President, Ms Clare Ratnasingham; Pavilion CEO – Retail, Datuk Joyce Yap; Parkson Holdings Berhad Executive Director, Ms Natalie Cheng, and Parkson management.

The Run had 3 categories i.e. 10km Competitive Run, 3km Run, and a special 1km run for cancer patients and survivors. The National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) which provides education, care and support services for people affected by cancer, is one of the beneficiaries of the Run with the registration fee waived for all cancer patients and survivors registered with NCSM. All the registration fees collected from the public joining in the special 1km Run for Cancer are to be donated to NCSM.

The Charity Run was also held to raise funds to build Phases 2 and 3 of the Banting Home to accommodate another 100 children and old folks home. The Home which can accommodate 100 children presently was officially opened by National Shuttler, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei on 4 November 2012. It was built at a cost of RM2.2 million contributed by Lion-Parkson Foundation, on a 4.17 acres piece of land worth RM1.2 million donated by Lion Group.

Prizes were awarded to the 40 winners of the various categories and 63 lucky draw prizes with a Karisma motorcycle sponsored by Modenas being the grand prize were given away to some lucky participants.
