LION PARKSON RUN 2018 RAISED RM1.2 MILLION FOR CHARITY

Kuala Lumpur, 23 October 2018 – The 2018 Lion Parkson Run organized by Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) for education and charity has successfully raised RM1.2 million from the participation fees, donations and contributions by sponsors, business associates and friends, Lion Group employees and the public. The third Charity Run at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on 30 September 2018 attracted about 3,800 participants who took part in the 4 categories of 10km Competitive Run, 3km Run, 3km Family Run and a special 1km run for cancer patients and survivors.

At today’s presentation ceremony, LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng presented part of the proceeds raised from the Charity Run to its charity partners, National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) for the amount of RM45,000 and Kasih Hospice Care Society for the amount of RM10,000; received by NCSM Vice President, Mrs Clare Ratnasingham and Kasih Hospice Care Society Deputy President, Dr Siow Chih Peng respectively. National Cancer Society of Malaysia provides education, care and support services for people affected by cancer; while Kasih Hospice Care Society provides care and support to those with serious illnesses including cancer, HIV/Aids and end stage organ failure. In line with the Foundation’s objective to promote education, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng also presented a sum of RM25,400 to Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Education Fund, received by its representative, Mr Teoh Kok Lin who is Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia Council Member, and Chairman of Digital Economy Committee.

Present at the ceremony were Lion Group Director and LPF Trustee, Datuk CS Tang; LPF Trustee, Dr Chua Siew Kiat and representatives from major sponsors of the Run namely Title Sponsor, Parkson Corporation; Venue Sponsor, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur; Drinks Sponsor, Spritzer; Official Radio Station, 988 FM; major sponsors, namely  Polo, Yinson, Akemi, Hi-Rev lubricant, Flamoff, Hwa Tai and Brand A Vision amongst others, several members and cancer patients from NCSM who had participated in the 1km Run for Cancer were present too.

Presentations to other beneficiaries such as the Home for Handicapped & Mentally Disabled Children in Banting, Selangor will be made later upon the completion of its expansion, as well as to the Foundation’s ongoing scholarship program next year.

In her speech, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng thanked the Run co-organiser Lee Chong Wei Foundation, all sponsors, donors, business associates and participants as well as the authorities concerned for their keen support, participation and contributions.

LPF was launched in 1990 to disburse funds for education, scientific and charitable purposes including medical needs. The Foundation has sponsored 457 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM10.7 million, and contributed another RM27 million towards other causes, including the Home for Handicapped & Mentally Disabled Children in Banting, making a total contribution of RM37.7 million todate.
