LION-PARKSON FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS WORTH RM480,000 TO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 September 2020 - Lion Group once again fulfilled its role as a caring corporate citizen when its Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) awarded scholarships totalling RM480,000 to 12 students based on their academic performance, extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities. The undergraduates who will be pursuing their bachelor’s degree in local institutions of higher learning received scholarships worth RM10,000 each per annum for the duration of their studies. This is the 30th year running that the Foundation is awarding scholarships to deserving students. The awards were presented by LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng witnessed by LPF Trustee, Datuk CS Tang.

Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng in her speech said, “We hope that our contribution will help the students to be free of financial constraints and be able to focus on their studies and participate in activities to develop their leadership qualities.”

“The scholarship holders will undergo training in soft skills such as problem-solving and communication, and internships at our companies during semester breaks to prepare them for the corporate world. They will join Lion Group upon graduation, and will be attached to companies in the various divisions such as retail, branding, mining, steel, and property development, according to their field of study”, she added.

Lion-Parkson Foundation was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 481 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM11.4 million.  In addition, the Foundation has also contributed another RM28.7 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of RM40.1 million todate.

The Foundation also provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians who require medical treatment such as surgery, purchase of medical equipment and medication. It also assists in sponsoring community health programmes such as medical camps and the purchase of dialysis machines and medical equipment for charitable organisations.
