Launching of Parkson Cares Educare 2011

Kuala Lumpur, 26 November 2011 – Lion-Parkson Foundation and Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd today launched the Parkson Cares Educare 2011 at KL Festival City Mall in Setapak. This is the 11th consecutive year that Parkson is participating in the Educare programme which ties in with its yearly Back-To-School Charity Drive for the public to buy and contribute school supplies such as school uniforms, bags, shoes, stationeries and exercise books for needy school children in Malaysia

The launching was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Education, YB Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong; Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng and Educare Chairman, Venerable Siri Wimala.

In her speech at the launching of Parkson Cares Educare 2011, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng said, “Parkson supports Educare which helps to equip needy students with essential school items and motivates them to do well with the kind contributions and act of caring displayed by the public. This will certainly encourage the students in their education and use the opportunities provided to improve themselves in order to have a brighter future.”

At the launching ceremony, Lion-Parkson Foundation and Parkson Corporation presented a cheque for RM25,000 and RM12,000 respectively to Venerable Siri Wimala for Educare 2011.

Educare will not only help to reduce the financial burden of parents to purchase essential school items for their children for the coming new school term but also brings hope to many families.

Educare, an annual charitable project was started in 2001 by Venerable B. Sri Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera and carried out by Siri Jayanti Association and Yayasan Maha Karuna. Parkson is assisting the Educare programme by providing collection bins at all its 37 stores nationwide for caring members of the public, various businesses and well-wishers to deposit their contributions of such items.
