Kuala Lumpur, 6 January 2009 – The Lion Group has renewed its sponsorship of RM21,000 for ‘Champ’, an African lion at Zoo Negara for another year. The sponsorship covers feeding, medication and maintenance expenses for the lion and had been on-going since 1996. This is part of the Group’s community relations programme which includes efforts to preserve our wildlife.
Lion-Parkson Foundation Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng presented the sponsorship to the Management of Zoo Negara at a presentation ceremony held at the zoo.
Lion-Parkson Foundation (formerly known as Lion-ASM Foundation) was launched in 1990 to administer and disburse funds for various needs such as education, charity and scientific research. Todate, the Foundation has sponsored a total of 350 students through various sponsorship programmes worth RM7.3 million. In addition, the Foundation has also contributed another RM8.2 million towards other causes, making a total contribution of RM15.5 million todate.
Another community project by the Lion Group is the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund that provides financial assistance to needy Malaysians seeking medical treatment.
