Press Statement by Lion Mining Sdn. Bhd. on Silica Sand Export
Banting, Selangor, 21 December 2022 – Lion Mining Sdn. Bhd. (LMSB), a member of Lion Group of Companies undertakes exploration activities for both alluvial and primary minerals (metallic and non-metallic) such as tin, iron ore, gold, coal, silica sand and other commodities in Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia.
LMSB has a total land size of 774 hectares for mining purpose in Mukim Tanjung Duabelas in Kuala Langat in Selangor. In 2019, the company had received 4 Proprietary Mining License (PML) approvals from Selangor State Government for parcels of lands totalling 416 hectares in this area in Kuala Langat. The Operating Mining Scheme (OMS) for LMSB has been approved by Department of Minerals and Geosciences, Selangor from year 2020 till now.
LMSB has plans to develop the land into a premier sand, silica sand and tin mining area and would like to thank the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change; all the regulatory departments and State of Selangor for their approvals, support and assistance which will enable the company to achieve its aim to be one of the biggest mine operators in Malaysia.
The company has invested more than RM600 million in land and capital expenditure comprising tin and silica plants, and mining equipment namely excavators, dump trucks, wheel loaders, compactors, motor grader, bulldozers and back pushers in its mining project to produce tin, sand, amang and silica sand. It has a pool of technical expertise and mining experience to explore and develop commercial mining projects.
LMSB currently has a silica processing plant which is producing high quality silica sand for local consumption and, recently, for export too.
The company’s mining activities and silica sand export to overseas buyers will help to revive and revitalise the local mining industry with the following benefits to the State and Country:
- High royalty collection of RM30 million from the 10 million mt export of silica sand per year for the State Government
- Employment for about 1,500 people (consultants, technical experts, technicians and skilled workers)
- As a platform for training of mining professionals
- Attract investments, both foreign and local from associated industries including glass industry, solar panel manufacturers etc and spur downstream and supporting industries
- Bring in foreign exchange earnings
