2021 CHINESE NEW YEAR CALLIGRAPHY CHARITY SALE

Kuala Lumpur, 4 May 2021 – For the past 11 years, Lion-Parkson Foundation (LPF) and Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd have organised a yearly Chinese New Year (CNY) Calligraphy Charity Sale in aid of needy students in a few schools in the Klang Valley.

For 2021, LPF was not able to organise the Calligraphy Charity Sale by the students in Parkson stores due to the Covid-19 pandemic and strict SOPs on public gatherings. Hence, LPF Chairman, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng decided to adapt to the new normal whereby she worked from home in producing her calligraphy pieces to usher in the Lunar New Year.

These pieces including cute caricatures of the Ox by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng and her family were on sale at Parkson stores at Pavilion KL, 1 Utama Shopping Mall, Sunway Velocity, Nu Sentral and Klang Parade, and on Parkson Online, with the entire sales proceeds channeled to charity in aid of education. All expenses for the calligraphy pieces were borne by Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng. The pieces were also sold through Facebook livestreaming and to members of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (ACCCIM) and The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (KLSCCCI) in aid of education.

All in, more than RM55,000 was raised from the sale of the calligraphy pieces. At a simple  presentation ceremony today, Puan Sri Chelsia Cheng presented cheques totaling RM42,900 to assist 72 students in the six schools that had been participating in the yearly Calligraphy Charity Sale. Also present was Chairman of Welfare Committee, The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (KLSCCCI), Mr Foo Kooi Siong.

The schools, namely Chong Hwa Kuala Lumpur, Confucian, Kuen Cheng, Tsun Jin, Kwang Hua Klang and Chung Hua Klang each received RM7,150 which will benefit 12 needy students in their schools; 5 students in junior middle school (Forms 1-3) will receive RM450 each and 7 students from senior middle school (Forms 4-6) will receive RM700 each.

The remaining RM12,320 from the total amount of RM55,000 raised  from the sale was donated to KLSCCCI Welfare Committee for education.

For the 11 years from 2010 to 2020, the CNY Calligraphy Charity Sale had raised more than RM2.55 million to assist needy students. Today’s contribution of RM42,900 to the schools brings the total amount raised  to nearly RM2.6 million.
